In the protected hamlet of Old Belvidere, nestled between the trees on the edge of the Knysna Lagoon lies this gracious Manor home. With over an acre of manicured land and an under roof coverage of 1466 square meters this family home offers an abundance of light airy spaces. The living and entertainment areas are centered around the bar area, making this the perfect home for entertaining. Large undercover patios wrap around two sides of the home extending the indoor living seamlessly to the outside. A dream kitchen with breakfast nook, large study with conference space and a wine cellar with vaulted ceiling completes the downstairs area.

Up the sweeping staircase there are four climate controlled en-suite bedrooms, and a gym area that can also be used as a pyjama lounge. Two units comprising of separate bedroom, lounge and bathrooms are accessed from the outside. A pool and gazebo, two double garages, storeroom and carport complete the picture.

In the words of the architect who designed "The Sanctuary " Merinda Brymer, "The composition of the design was influenced by the L-shaped site with beautiful lagoon views to the East and large trees, as well as the Northern aspect to the property. The building was raised above the water table associated with erven along the lagoon.”

The design of the home is in a contemporary classical style. A main feature being the tall picture windows designed with classical and rhythmic proportions. The tiled roofs were designed as a collection of pitch minor elements linked with concrete slabs, which also served the purpose of reducing the scale of the dwelling in the country-like setting. In order to create a sense of arrival, a central court was incorporated of garages and a double volume entrance porch leading off from the courtyard.

The interior is designed with large volumes to create a sense of space, as well as to allow for light and air to filter into the home, enhancing the relaxed environment. Specific attention was paid to the flow and sight lines, with the interior spaces flowing into each other reducing the need for passages. The picture windows are designed to take advantage of the great views as well as to allow light to flood into the home.
